Johannes Basten
Johannes graduated from Nottingham University with a degree in business studies. He joined Pannel Kerr Forster as a trainee accountant but was tempted away by the offer of a MD’s position with a newly-established manufacturer of pneumatic tube systems who were also the exclusive UK distributor for a German component product.
Beyond taking responsibility for all commercial and operational matters, Johannes drove sales into the health and retail sectors securing a number of sole supplier contracts. He was the architect of a strategic overview in the late 90’s which led to the outsourcing of production to Poland. He doubled sales over a two year period by leveraging a support structure for an international network of distribution partners.
He later managed the due diligence process as his employer was acquired by a larger group and joined their UK management team in 2001. The company was in turn merged with another group in 2002.
After setting up and promoting a distributor of virtual reality products for the construction sector, Johannes became an independent consultant in 2003. He divides his time between Germany and the UK and has worked for Quantum’s clients in telecoms, IT and travel sectors in both languages.
Johannes is well known for his sense of humour – having great fun with national stereotypes. He has worked with sales managers on sales activity planning and account management, and with front-line people on the selling of business value in-the-round. He has also managed sales recruitment / assessment processes.
