Polly's Q&As

After leaving college in the late 80's having qualified in catering and hotel management, Polly plunged straight into the world of entertainment as a manager in a new business venture. She was responsible for building the profile of the business via advertising and 'cold calling' and later took the organisation to a new level by organising entertainment evenings and a number of training events. As the business expanded, she moved to the Canary Islands to successfully run two of the company's establishments over a two-year period.
Following a total of 3 years in the frantic entertainment business Polly accepted the role of Administration Manager working for 3 directors in the auto industry. Her responsibilities included: building a detailed 'prospect' database; communicating with suppliers; placing and expediting purchase orders; personal input and training for others in an automated accounting system, and, the management and delivery of the company's internal salary payments.
In 1994 she took a front-line, customer-facing, supervisor's role with Abbey National. In addition to a variety of mainstream 'front-of-house' responsibilities, Polly handled all new staff training, was the central liaison point for communication on sales targets, and was a prime mover in several lead-generation initiatives resulting in new-name sales of a suite of financial products for the company.

Following the birth of her son in early 1996, Polly accepted an Area Distribution Supervisor's position with a regional newspaper group where she was responsible for recruiting distributors for the newspaper, all 'pay and rations' and ensuring optimum newspaper distribution within her geographical area.
With the end of the 1990's in sight, by request, she also provided part-time assistance to a prominent Surrey High School, in particular in: I.T. with the full suite of Microsoft products; event management, and also in the creation and on-going organising of a departmental accounting scheme.
Prior to joining Quantum Polly was PA to the Managing Director of a publicly-quoted pharmaceutical group, with a wide-ranging brief which included: creating and maintaining a company materials library; 'trouble-shooting' the complaints which the call centre couldn't cope with; organising and driving 'Employee of The Quarter' incentive scheme, and organising corporate events.
